What We Do

"When Jay Nuhring re-thinks your rooms, it's not a do-over. He's not starting from scratch. He's looking at what you have, and finding a way to make it work better. He's putting your pieces together in a totally new way. A way that calms. Or invites. Or defines. Or surprises. After all, you have a story, and what you have in your home tells bits and pieces of that story. So let's put the story together in a way that reflects you best. What you're about. Where you've been. The things you love".

1920's Uptown Farmhouse Goes Modern

3100 Block and Bryant - Minneapolis.  Staging + Photo Styling
Painted all walls.  Rearranged all furniture and rehung artwork throughout.  Added accessories and some furnishings to fill in the blanks.  Simple.  Clean.  Modern.  House sold immediately.  Photography by +Mike McCaw - SpaceCrafting.com.

Living Room - View 2.  Especially like the asymmetry of the artwork above the sofa.  The window (left of art) seems to balance the composition.  Again, simple, clean, minimal.

Dining Room.  Added sisal rug and simple IKEA furnishings.  A white storage unit doubles as a place for stemware and a bar.  Round mirror repeats the silver cocktail tray, the Saarinen-style dining table and the globe light fixture.

Additional Living/Den Space off of Living Room.  Borrowed black leather lounge chairs and over-sized mirror from second floor bedroom.  Rearranged sofa to window wall, added accessories, lighting and artwork to round out the collection.  The photograph is engaging, inviting, balanced and enjoyable to look at.

Library - "After".  Added charcoal sisal rug.  Removed floral upholstered chairs and added a British Colonial folding table with glass top - great for books or an occasional dinner - fireside.  Rearranged books in book cases.  Gathered art from throughout the house and composed an eclectic assemble on the mantel.  Added black pillows and wrought iron chair for texture and material interest.

Mid-Century Pop Art

Recycled Billboard Paper Art.  This piece has a  Mid-Century Pop Art look.  Combination of Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.  The piece dialogs well with the Reitveld chair.  Client installation.  Rochester, Minnesota.  Photography by +Eric Melzer at EricMelzer.com.
"Point Five" - This piece reminds me of the figure/ground drawings from architecture school.  The negative background is as engaging as the foreground.  Dynamic.  Fluid.  Composed.  Photography by +Eric Melzer at EricMelzer.com.
"Yellow W" - This piece measures approximately 45" x 45".  Original campaign advertised a Boat Show at the Minneapolis Convention Center.  Saturated screen print with thick ink - very painterly.

Sophisticated Stylish Victorian Update

Dining Room - Before.  Queen Anne/ Victorian Farmhouse - Historic St. Paul, Minnesota.  Photograph by +Danielle Gernes - GernesPhotography.com.  Read more at  Staging With Soul

Dining Room - After.  Simple changes make this room breathe easier.  Lighter, brighter, less fussy rug in sisal.  Updated Louis XVI chairs upholstered in woven raffia.  A grand but flirty chandelier.  And different supporting furnishings to round out the collection.  Gone is the tall open shelved hutch and in it's place is a vintage mirror borrowed from the adjacent living room.  Photograph by +Danielle Gernes - GernesPhotography.com. Chairs & Chandelier from +Robb Whittlef and Historic Interiors Group - Minneapolis.

Flea Market Shopping With Jay

Flea Market - Minnesota State Fair Grounds.  Found this pair of large pressed glass bowls on pedestals.   Thought they would be great on either end of a table with purple hydrangea or a densely packed bouquet of peonies.  Don't let the "Grandma" look of these pieces fool you.  It's what you put in them that makes them current and relevant.

Then I found this aqua marine blue seltzer water bottle.  The color,  etched lettering and antique silver spout caught my eye.  Look for this in an upcoming posting showing it in it's new home!

And yes, a 1958 Norman Cherner molded plywood arm chair - near perfect condition.  A beautiful and  unexpected find for $675.

Selling Your Home Soon? In 2 Years? In 5 Years?

Great house but wasn't living up to it's full potential.  A couple cosmetic changes and different furniture make this space more engaging and rich looking.  Photography by LandMarkPhotoDesign.com

The floors were refinished and changed to a rich dark walnut.  Next the walls were painted a fresh updated Benjamin Moore yellow.  Then different furniture.  Wool rug is from HomeGoods.  Vintage cocktail table and  bronze table lamp are from a local consignment boutique.  Apricot accent chairs and tufted spring green sofa all from a "week-end" outlet store.  Floor lamp - clearance - Restoration Hardware.  Vintage black & white etchings from H & B Gallery - Minneapolis.  Easy.  Affordable.  Great looking.  Photography by LandMarkPhotoDesign.com

1990's Italian Sectional Gets A Makeover!

Great architecturally designed home.  Needed something.  Decided the rug wasn't right.  Thought the European-style sectional was out-dated but needed to make it work.  The bolo leather head-rests had to go.  Here is what I did...

Replaced oriental rug with neutral modern wool cut pile.  Linked the serpentine sectional to create one continuous "s" curve seating area.  Removed bolo leather head rests and added seven 26" white Euro pillows.  Rearranged furniture.  Added tropical greenery.  Photography by LandMarkPhotoDesign.com
